Kit-Build Aircraft
- Sonex: Sells 1-2 seat airplanes in various kit forms ranging from piecemeal all the way to complete airframe kits. As of 2022, pricing (with engine, instruments, propeller and upholstery) ranged from $32,000 to $47,000.
- Zenith Aircraft: Offers 1 and 2-seat planes that you can build piecemeal or get quick-build kits for. Pricing (for just the airframe) ranges from $23,300 to $32,300.
- Van’s RV Aircraft: Van’s has eight (8) models to choose from currently, in configurations from 1 to 4 seats. Note that their pricing does not include the engine, propeller, instruments, avionics, upholstery or paint. Air frame kits range in price from $26,000 all the way up to $105,515. All kit packages (i.e. kits for tail, wing, fuselage, etc.) have lead times ranging from 1 month to 18 months.
- Arion Aircraft: They offer sleek two-seater airframe kits- the Lightning, Lightning XS and the LS-1. Pricing starts at $44,000 for the Lightning XS, $47,500 for the Lightning Standard Kit, and $130,000 for the LS-1.
- Flying Legend: If you don’t mind your seats being in tandem, Flying Legend offers a no-frills airframe for just over $26,000. Quick build kits, additional features and building assistance are available for an additional fee.
- Sling: Sleek and modern, Sling airplanes look like they came from a showroom floor instead of someone’s garage. But all that beauty comes at a price. The two-seater Sling 2 standard kit comes in at $51,225 before you add in the engine, avionics, etc. and the four-seat Sling TSI is $70,188 before adding in the engine, avionics, etc.
- Velocity: Reminiscent of a catfish with its additional elevators near the cowling, what the Velocity lacks in traditional design it makes up for in innovation and speed. The V-Twin model will hold either 2 adults + 3 kids, or 4 adults comfortably. Fuel capacity is 90-100 gallons and the range is 1,100 NM. Needless to say, such power will cost you to the tune of $148,000 for the kit alone. The XL model (also holds 5 and has a 70 gallon fuel capacity) comes in at $64,000 and the SE (holds 4 adults and has a 60 gallon fuel capacity) is $48,000. Note that these prices do NOT get you an engine, upholstery or avionics.
- Cozy Mark IV: Aircraft Spruce acquired the licensing rights to the Cozy Mark IV plans and sells them- along with the kits to build it- on their website. Plan on spending a minimum of $10,000 to start work.
- Mirage Aircraft: The two-seat airframe created by Mirage Aircraft can be configured into a tail wheel (Celerity model) or tricycle gear (Marathon model) configuration. Aircraft Spruce sells the parts necessary for the build and estimates costs at $11,500 before you add in the cost of an engine, avionics and so on.
